Half-Life remains a game series that many gamers still play and can’t seem to let go of. In fact, players are eagerly awaiting the third game in the series, which they can’t get enough of. Although hopes for the third game are slowly dwindling, Half-Life 2 is once again compelling players to experience it. With the rejuvenated Half-Life 2 utilizing RTX technology, it has captivated the majority of players!

The RTX and DLSS support for Half-Life 2 is dazzling

Thanks to the efforts of the community modding team with Nvidia’s support, Half-Life 2 is getting a ray tracing remaster. After the support for Portal, now it’s coming to another gem of the Source engine. Currently, there’s no specific release date. Nvidia announced the news as part of their presentations before Gamescom.

The remaster will utilize Nvidia’s toolset for bringing ray tracing to classic PC games, called RTX Remix. RTX Remix was previously announced taking inspiration from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It aims to empower community modders and enthusiasts with the ability to bring ray tracing transformations to old games, though it’s still limited to a few users.

In this community, modders are integrating modern Nvidia features like Full Ray Tracing (RTX) and DLSS into games. They recreate in-game objects with more geometric detail and physically-based rendering (PBR) properties. This process involves significant effort.

Chromebook gaming plans shelved, Nvidia GPUs not coming

Google has stopped developing Chromebooks with Nvidia GPUs. This dashed dreams of an affordable gaming PC.

The short teaser video introducing the mod showcases only a portion of the game, but it’s an iconic area: Dr. Kleiner’s lab. Many Half-Life enthusiasts would recognize this place instantly upon seeing it. While such mods can sometimes deviate from the original game, according to the released teaser video, this project seems to excel beyond others.

As mentioned, there’s no timeline for the mod’s release, and it’s worth noting that modding projects like this can take quite some time. We can expect to see more promotional videos about the RTX remastered Half-Life 2 in the coming times.
